COLTS DAYCARE AND
YOUNG PARENTS PROGRAM

We support young parents and their children

When a young person becomes a parent it can be difficult to build a brighter tomorrow, especially if you haven’t completed high school.

The COLTS Daycare and Young Parents Program gives young parents an opportunity to get their high school diploma in a way that meets them where they’re at. We work in partnership with the Richmond School District to provide a supportive learning environment where academic material is delivered by a certified teacher at a pace that recognizes youth have a lot going on.

We cap our class size at 12 to ensure students receive the one-on-one attention that will help them thrive. Meanwhile, just steps from the classroom, our daycare is staffed by qualified professionals who work to support healthy development and attachment for children aged 0-3.

Wraparound support during this time is also important. That’s why we make individual and group counselling available to young parents, giving them the space to navigate issues such as intimate partner violence or mental health challenges. Further support is available to youth to guide, coach, and model parenting practices so that they feel empowered to support their child’s development and strengthen their relationships.

Access to education is critical for young parents, and at Family Services of Greater Vancouver we break down barriers to ensure youth get the same opportunities as their peers. Not only does the COLTS program empower youth to complete their high school education, but we’ve also seen graduates go on to post-secondary programs and meaningful careers – knowing that they’ve built a strong foundation for their family. Thank you for your generous support
